We recently read an article that stated that several magazine publishers have acknowledged that they sell more copies when the cover is graced by someone older than an average starlet – someone like Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore or our very Indian beauties including Rekha, Sharmila Tagore, Sridevi or Priyanka Chopra. The article further stated that the majority of women who read these magazines found women in their mid- to late-thirties and older to be more accomplished and interesting than their younger counterparts. Elif Shafak, a Turkish novelist says that Forty is a most beautiful age for both men and women. You receive a new mission at 40, a new lease on life! Shafak’s book, The 40 Rules of Love, states that aging is something that everyone should embrace as it offers the promise of awakening. The author congratulates everyone who touches 40 and tells them that they have reached a most auspicious number.
Vasundhara starts a new career at 40. She believes that in first 20 years, she acquired basic skills; and between 21 and 40 she applied those skills to gain some life experience. Vasundhara says that it’s now time to proactively apply her life experiences to create something that excites her and motivates her to build an extraordinary life!
There are many more examples - Basho, a popular Japanese poet, who made a great name for himself in his youth took a journey around Japan on foot at 40. His interest in acclaim and material goods declined; however, he cultivated a strong bond with nature. He spent his post-40 walking, visiting Shinto and Zen Buddhist temples.
